Now Hiring: CIT Leadership!

The best summer job ever!

Do you want to spend your summer splashing around in the Gulf with our campers? This year Sanibel Sea School’s CIT program was designed for teens – by teens! A group of experienced CITs developed and revamped our existing CIT program to be better than ever this year and we’re so excited to share it with you!

We will have three tiers to the program – CIT, Senior CIT, and Lead CIT. CITs or Counselors in Training (ages 13-16) will register for camp as they normally would for a week of camp and will be enrolled in our leadership program. Senior and Lead CITs will be selected through an application process.

We will designate one volunteer Senior CIT per week to assist with our annual summer camp. Lead CITs will be hired for the entire summer. Both positions utilize the skills learned as a CIT to gain even more experience as young leaders! Please see more details and application instructions below. We thank you for helping us make this the best summer ever!

Some new components that you can expect:

  • A CIT open house (in-person and virtually) for all CIT levels for the summer

  • End of the week evaluations

  • Improved leadership opportunities for all levels of CITs

Senior CITs

Senior CITs will serve as role models for new Counselors in Training. They will supervise CITs on how to best assist counselors throughout the day. Senior CITs will help CITs understand how important they are to our campers’ experience each week. Senior CITs will supervise the CIT workforce during camp activities.

Senior CITs will have at least one year of experience in our CIT program, will be at least 16 years of age, and will have a current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certification*.

The Senior CIT position is a volunteer position for a one-week term.

Application Requirements:

  • Letter of intent

  • Copies of certifications

  • A list of the weeks you’re available to work in order of priority

The number of Senior CIT positions is limited. This leadership program has grown immensely, and we are grateful for that, but we cannot guarantee everyone will be assigned a week. If you are not selected as a Senior CIT this year, please enroll as a CIT during those weeks you would like to attend.

We will notify you if selected to be a Senior CIT before camp registration opens. If you wish to come to more than your selected weeks, we would love to have you, please register as a CIT during priority registration.

Lead CIT

Lead CITs will coordinate with the Senior CITs each week to make sure they understand their role in our summer camp. Lead CITs will also be responsible for administering both CIT and Senior CIT evaluations each week. Lead CITs will work closely with the camp staff to execute the programs of our summer camp offerings and to assist and advise all CITs.

Lead CITs will have experience as a CIT and Senior CIT, will be at least 16 years of age, and will have a current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certification*.

The Lead CIT is a paid position. There is a minimum commitment of five consecutive weeks for this position. Ideally, we are looking for one candidate to commit to the summer.

Application Requirements:

  • Letter of intent

  • Resume and copies of certifications

  • Work availability

Lead CIT finalists will be offered an interview for the position.

*If you are unable to obtain the necessary certifications before the application deadline, it may be possible for you to join our staff training session at the end of May. Once we solidify the Senior CIT and Lead CIT participants for the summer, we will send out more information regarding staff training. CITs that joins the staff training will be asked to pay the course record fee, which is typically $20.

Applications for Senior CITs and Lead CIT will be due in January 2021. Please email jobs@sanibelseaschool.org if you have any questions.
