Educator Receives Certification through Autism Project

We are thrilled to announce that Marine Science Educator, Jordyn Sateren, recently received a certificate of completion for “A Starting Point” through The Autism Project.
This certification provides training and tools to teach children on the autism spectrum and to aid in developing curriculum for neurodiverse children. The 10-hour training series consisted of seven modules, equipping educators with knowledge and tools, ranging from understanding autism to supporting regulation and communication.
“I was really excited to complete this certification,” says Sateren. “Everyone deserves to experience the magic of our ocean, and it’s important to me to learn the tools to make that possible for even more people.”
The long-term goal is to create a neurodivergent-friendly program at Sanibel Sea School and new partnerships in the community.
“We want to collaborate with other organizations that are already doing wonderful work with neurodivergent students and incorporate our hands-on, immersive experiences,” says Sateren.
Sanibel Sea School supports educators in furthering their personal and professional interests by encouraging and funding new training and certifications, such as this one.
“We are always expanding and growing our curriculum and programs,” says Sanibel Sea School Director Shannon Rivard. “Our educators play a huge role in that by taking initiative in areas that are important to them and helping to make our offerings accessible to all students.”
