Do you want to spend your summer splashing around in the Gulf with our campers? Sanibel Sea School’s Counselors in Training (CIT) program was designed for teens — by teens!
We have three tiers to the program: CIT, Senior CIT, and Lead CIT.
CITs (ages 13-16) will register for camp as they normally would and will be enrolled in our leadership program. Senior and Lead CITs will be selected through an application process.
One volunteer Senior CIT is designated per week to assist with our annual summer camp. Lead CITs are hired for the entire summer.

Senior CITs
Senior CITs will serve as role models for new Counselors in Training. They will supervise CITs on how to best assist counselors throughout the day. Senior CITs will help CITs understand how important they are to our campers’ experience each week and will supervise the CIT workforce during camp activities.
The Senior CIT position is a volunteer position for a one-week term.
Senior CITs will have at least one year of experience in our CIT program, will be at least 16 years of age, and will have a current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certification.*
Application Requirements:
- Letter of intent
- Copies of certifications
- A list of the weeks you're available to work, in order of priority
Selected applicants will be notified before before camp registration opens. We cannot guarantee everyone will be assigned a week. If you're not selected, please enroll as a CIT during the weeks you'd like to attend.
Lead CITs
Lead CITs will coordinate with the Senior CITs each week to make sure they understand their role in our summer camp. Lead CITs will also be responsible for administering both CIT and Senior CIT weekly evaluations. Lead CITs will work closely with camp staff to execute summer camp programs and to assist and advise all CITs.
The Lead CIT is a paid position. There is a minimum commitment of five consecutive weeks for this position. Ideally, we look for one candidate to commit to the summer.
Lead CITs will have experience as a CIT and Senior CIT, will be at least 18 years of age, and will have a current lifeguard and CPR/first aid certification.*
Application Requirements:
- Letter of intent
- Resume and copies of certifications
- Work availability
Lead CIT finalists will be offered an interview for the position.
*If you are unable to obtain the necessary certifications before the application deadline, it may be possible for you to join our staff training session at the end of May. Once we solidify Senior CIT and Lead CIT participants for the summer, we send out more information regarding staff training. CITs that joins the staff training will be asked to pay the course record fee, typically $20.
