Sanibel Sea School Blog
Meet Jordyn Sateren, Marine Science Educator
Where are you from?
Shawnee, Oklahoma
Where did you go to school and what did you study?
I studied marine science at Coastal Carolina University.
What do you look forward to while teaching at Sanibel Sea School?
I am looking forward to working with the future of marine science and sharing the passion I have for the ocean with others who can appreciate it in the same nerdy way!
What do you like to do in your time off?
Watching movies, doing puzzles, rock climbing, and scuba diving!
What is your favorite sea creature?
Spotted eagle rays or grooved brain coral!
What’s the best music for a weekend at the beach?
I really enjoy a little bit of everything, so it really depends on who I’m with! Anything from surf rock, pop, throwbacks, reggae, to even country.
If you could visit any marine ecosystem on the planet, where would you go?
I would love the opportunity to visit parts of the coral triangle. This is an extremely biodiverse area in the Pacific that is home to thousands of species including important reef-building corals! It includes the countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste, and Solomon Islands.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself?
I’ve been to 46 of the US states and gotten the chance to visit and hike over 15 National Parks! Florida is one of my favorite states because it has such unique ecosystems compared to the rest of the country!
