Sanibel Sea School educators are busy finalizing summer camp activities as registration quickly approaches on March 4.

“Recently, overcoming adversity has been the name of the game for our staff, and planning for this summer is no different. With our main campus closed for remodeling, and as we explore questions about future water quality and increased debris buried in the sand, we have a lot to consider,” said Sanibel Sea School Director Shannon Rivard. “Regardless, our staff is dedicated to ensuring we still have the best summer yet at our new homebase at the Bailey Homestead Preserve!”

Another necessity for a successful summer season is finding a team of energetic counselors to share the magic of the ocean with campers, and staff have been busy filling remaining openings. Staff are thrilled to be welcoming back last year’s summer camp photographer, Jodi La Sage, whose photos captured many epic surfing wipeouts, silly moments, and remarkable ocean discoveries.

Teen camp planning is also well underway. Educators are collaborating across all SCCF departments for “A Week in the Field,” working with the local fishing community for “The Art of Fishing Week,” and taking a stand up paddleboard (SUP) water safety course for “Wahine Toa,” an annual all-women paddling and survival camp.

“Last, but not least, we have been going through all our supply lists for camp and replacing what we lost in the storm, which has been no small task,” Rivard said.
