Sanibel Sea School Summer Camp Registration Opens in February
Mark your calendar: General registration for Sanibel Sea School’s 2022 summer camp programs will open at noon on Saturday, Feb. 12. A variety of exciting ocean camps are available for campers ages 4-17 at two locations—the Flagship campus on the East End of the island and at the Bailey Homestead Preserve.
Last summer was the first year Sanibel Sea School offered camp at the Bailey Homestead. With wide-open spaces, nature trails, a covered pavilion, and a five-minute drive to the beach, the Bailey Homestead is an ideal place to hold summer camp. Sanibel Sea School is thrilled to offer eight fabulous weeks of camp there again this summer.
Each week of Island Skills camp, offered at both locations, has its own theme. Highlights this summer include “Battle of the Operculum–Fighting Conch Week,” “Hats off to Sea Urchins Week,” and “Snowballs in the Summer–Snowy Plover Week.” Each theme has a set of experiments, art projects, and games, along with weekly activities like surfing, snorkeling, and net fishing. Most weeks are for ages 6 to 13 but Sanibel Sea School also offers Sea Squirt camps for ages 4 to 6. This year’s Sea Squirt themes include “That’s One Big Noggin’ Dude–Loggerhead Week,” “Rainbows in the Swash–Coquina Week,” and “Bunnies by the Beach–Marsh Rabbit Week.” Young Sea Squirt explorers also splash and learn while getting comfortable in the ocean.
Teens 13 and older can participate as Counselors in Training (CITs), learning useful leadership skills in a fun setting. CITs are a vital link between campers and counselors. Through theory and practice, Sanibel Sea School teaches CITs how to be leaders and positive role models. The CIT program runs simultaneous to Island Skills weeks at both locations.
Sanibel Sea School will offer additional opportunities for teens at both the Flagship and at the Bailey Homestead locations. The awesome lineup of summer camps includes fishing, paddleboarding, kayaking, survival skills, research experience, and overnight camping!
