Emily Pipkin

Emily was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. She developed a strong passion for animals at a young age. Growing up, she spent summers at the beach and was always fascinated by the ocean and its creatures. As she got older, she became particularly interested in the role of sharks as apex predators and their importance in ocean conservation.  This interest led her to the University of San Diego where she majored in environmental and ocean sciences and minored in sociology. Throughout the course of her college career, she had many opportunities to further her knowledge and appreciation for the ocean including learning how to SCUBA dive, studying abroad in New Zealand, and observing sustainable fishing practices in Fiji. After college, she moved to Fort Myers, FL where she worked as a STEM educator in various non-traditional settings. In 2023, she had the opportunity to visit the Galápagos Islands where she strengthened her passion for conservation and marine life even further. Emily is thrilled to share her love for the ocean with people of all ages and gain new experiences with Sanibel Sea School.
